Duo Security

Duo Mobile

Duo Mobile is an app that runs on iOS and Android phones and tablets. It's fast and easy to use, and doesn't require cell services. Duo pushes login requests to Duo Mobile when you have mobile data or Wi-Fi connectivity to the internet. When you have no data service, you can generate passcodes with Duo Mobile for logging in to applications.

The current version of Duo Mobile supports iOS 13.0 or greater and Android 8 or greater.

Initial Registration

Using a smartphone (recommended)

We recommend using your personal smartphone for the initial registration process. Follow the steps below.

  1. Click the activation link in the enrollment email you received from Duo. This link is unique and will only work once.

  2. Select your country from the drop-down list, then enter your mobile number and click Add phone number. DO NOT use your office phone.

  3. If you entered a phone number, double-check that you entered it correctly and click Yes, it's correct to continue (or No, change it to go back and enter the number again).

If the phone number you entered already exists in Duo as the authentication device for another user then you'll need to enter a code sent to that number by phone call or text message to confirm that you own it. Choose how you want to receive the code, then enter the received code to continue.

  4. Download and install Duo Mobile on your phone or tablet from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. (If you already have the app installed, there’s no need to download it again.)

iOS: Duo Mobile on the App Store (apple.com)
Android: Duo Mobile - Apps on Google Play

Once you have Duo Mobile installed, click Next.

  5. Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone or tablet and add this account by scanning the QR code shown on-screen. When you first launch the app, it will ask for permission to send notifications. Allowing notifications is strongly recommended: it will not only provide a smoother login experience for you, but it will also help you know if someone is trying to log in to your account without your knowledge if you receive an unexpected authentication request.

If you aren't able to scan the QR code, tap Or email activation code and then enter your email address to send the activation link to your email. Follow the instructions in the email to activate the new account in Duo Mobile.

  6. When you receive confirmation that Duo Mobile was added, click Continue.

You’re done! You can now log in to Duo-protected applications with Duo Push or with a Duo Mobile passcode.

FAQs and Troubleshooting

I don’t receive any push notifications from Duo when trying to sign in.

Make sure that you’ve allowed the app to send notifications.

I’ve enrolled in Duo MFA using my Android phone and notifications are enabled, but I don’t receive anything when trying to log in.

This appears to be an issue with Duo on Android. If Duo says it sent the push notification but you don’t receive anything, try opening the Duo app. It usually will appear then.
